Wimbledon Tennis Championships

The Wimbledon Tennis Championships is the largest single annual sporting catering operation in Europe. MCR Systems are delighted to work with the Compass Group, the official Suppliers to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, who are extremely passionate about this most prestigious sporting event. About 1,800 catering staff are required to operate these catering outlets and the quantity of food and drink served by them during the fortnight is huge. For example, 350,000 cups of tea and coffee, 250,000 bottles of water and 28,000 kg of English strawberries!

The Championships took place between Monday 29th June and Sunday 12th July this year, although the preparation and planning for MCR started well in advance of this date, ensuring a smooth deployment of EPOS and Integrated Chip & PIN and Contactless Payment across the multiple Food and Drink outlets.

Compass Group also provide the catering at many other well-known sporting events and venues and required a robust EPOS system that is flexible enough to be used at different events throughout the year and that can also be centrally managed and networked to provide live reporting, and is also capable of working off-line. The Symphony system was selected with SymPOS Touchscreen Tills at the point of sale.

For Wimbledon, Compass has a fixed window of just 16 days to service the catering and hospitality for this one-off, world renowned annual event and 160 SymPOS Tills are called into action to meet the demand.

The Tills are fast and easy to operate which is essential in these busy outlets with upto 38,500 spectators in the grounds at any one time. The statistics show that on some days 7 transactions per minute were recorded through a single Till, with over 64000 transactions being processed on a day, which is pretty impressive!

Integrated Contactless payment is another real benefit in speeding up service and reducing queues, and is now being widely used by the public.

All sales data is available in real-time through Symphony, providing a snapshot of business activity at the press of a button and providing detailed analysis both during and post Championships.
