Natasha’s Law - how we can help

Natasha’s Law will be introduced in October 2021 to help protect allergy sufferers and give them confidence in the food they buy. It will require businesses to display the following on foods pre-packed for direct sale (PPDS):

  • Name of the food

  • Full ingredients list

  • Allergenic ingredients emphasised within the list (for example in bold, italics or a different colour)

What are PPDS foods? PPDS foods are foods which have been made, packaged and sold directly to consumers all on the same site. It also applies to food sold from a temporary or moveable premises (such as a market stall) by the same food business that packaged it. This may include pre-packed sandwiches made on site, boxed salads, or bagged cookies/cakes baked on the premises.

The new labelling requirements do not apply to PPDS foods sold via distance selling, such as food that can be purchased over the phone or online. Businesses selling food this way will need to ensure that allergen information is available to the consumer before they purchase the product and also at the moment of delivery.

How we can help:

Without doubt, the most effective way to ensure consistent, reliable and accurate nutrition and allergen information is with the use of software.

POS:

Our Symphony solution allows for products to have their allergens listed and queried, as well as printed clearly on custom labels via a label printer. Pre-Order:

Allergens can also be displayed on our Pre-Order apps and websites, as well as printed on Daily Menus when using our Menu Manager. Stock Management: Our Symphony Stock Manager solution enables stock items to have their allergens listed, ensuring that any recipe items linked to products includes the allergen information automatically. Information is also shown on any Symphony Stock Manager recipe cards. If you change an ingredient of a recipe item, the allergens are automatically updated across your Symphony suite.

We also work with third party stock applications, which can feed product nutritional and allergen information through to the POS, Self-Serve Kiosk and Pre-Order app and website for the operator and customer. This is displayed in text and icon format.
